Field setting, save 1 in ring & 2 on boundary
A common mistake when positioning inner ring fielders is for them to be too deep and not be able to save the one particularly when the ball is struck directly at them. Position the fielders to stop the one, prevent easy singles and build pressure.
Sure, a boundary fielder’s job is to save the 4 and prevent high balls sailing over their heads for one bounce 4’s. If there is no risk of catches being missed overhead or boundaries not being stopped, a common mistake is for the boundary fielder to be positioned too deep directly on the boundary preventing them from saving an easy 2 runs. Take a few steps or metres off the boundary which will allow the fielder to also stop the 2 which is an important role of the boundary fielder. Fielders should check with their captain or bowler if unsure of the ideal position.
